Journalism Scholarships

The New England Press Educational Foundation (NEPEF), the Boston-based non-profit with more than 525 member newspapers throughout New England, is pleased to offer scholarships to deserving college journalism students through its Hometown Scholars Program. NEPEF strives to encourage young people to enter the newspaper field and fosters professional development through training programs and conventions.

Qualifications for becoming a New England Press Educational Foundation Scholar

  • Must be resident of New England
  • Must be a senior in high school planning to attend college the following year, or a college student studying print journalism
  • Must have a GPA of 2.3 or above
  • Must demonstrate a serious interest in a career in print journalism through either:
    • a body of published work in a school newspaper, general circulation newspaper or a similar publication OR
    • a body of work prepared for a journalism class OR
    • an essay of at least 1,000 words describing your journalistic interests and values.
